E3 Error Code: communication fault, display and buttons unresponsive, will not accelerate

Last updated November 5, 2026

E3 is a communication fault between the handlebar assembly and the motor controller. Symptoms: E3 stays on the display after power-up, no response to the power, mode or throttle buttons, the scooter will not accelerate and kick-to-start is disabled, the battery level may still look normal.

  1. Safety first: power off the scooter and disconnect the charger before inspection.

  2. Visual check: inspect the communication cable end to end for cuts, kinks or crushed sections.

  3. Reseat connectors: unplug and firmly reseat the cable connectors at both the display and the controller, with pins straight and fully engaged.

  4. Clean pins: check for moisture or corrosion; if found, dry and clean the pins with contact cleaner.

  5. Route the cable away from sharp bends or pinch points and secure it with zip ties.

If E3 persists

Swap in a known-good communication cable. If nothing changes, the controller likely needs replacement (a faulty handlebar assembly is less common).
