Battery Not Charging & Charger Stays Green

Last updated November 5, 2026

This guide helps you identify why your scooter isn’t charging.

Start with the Basic Checks below; if the issue persists, move on to the Advanced Diagnostics section.

Opening the scooter’s bottom cover for inspection does not void the warranty.

Basic Checks (Before Using Tools)

1. Verify Battery Level

  • Connect to your scooter in the Apollo App → Battery tab.
  • If the charge is above 90 %, the charger light may stay green, meaning the battery is already full.
  • If it’s below 90 %, continue with the next steps.

2. Check the Charger Indicator Light

  1. Plug the charger into the wall first, then into the scooter.

  2. The charger LED should:

    • Red = Charging in progress
    • Green = Fully charged or not charging
  3. If the light stays green, try a different power outlet and ensure all connections are fully seated.

  4. If the charger LED blinks, record a short video and contact Apollo Support.

3. Test for Loose or Intermittent Connection

  • With the charger connected, gently wiggle the plug at the scooter’s charge port.
  • If the charger light flickers red, the port may be loose or worn.
  • Take a photo or video and contact Apollo Support.
  • Replacement ports are available on the Apollo website.

4. Visual Inspection

  • Look for dust, debris, corrosion, or discoloration on the charger plug and port.
  • Check for bent pins or melted plastic.
  • If you see any damage, do not attempt to charge; take photos/videos and contact support.

5. Verify Cable Fitment (Model-Dependent)

If you suspect the issue is internal:

  • Make sure the charge-port connector is fully seated inside the scooter.
  • Refer to the Apollo YouTube channel for charge-port inspection or replacement videos.

🔧 Advanced Diagnostics (For Technicians or Skilled Owners)

These steps help determine whether the charger, charge port, or battery is at fault using a digital multimeter.

Tools & Setup

  • Digital multimeter (DC voltage + continuity)
  • Screwdrivers / plastic pry tool
  • Static-safe, well-lit workspace
  • Charger and scooter spec labels

Step 1: Verify Charger Output

  1. Unplug charger from scooter.

  2. Set multimeter to DC voltage above charger rating.

  3. Plug charger into wall; measure voltage at charger plug.

  4. Compare reading to specs printed on charger label.

    • No voltage (0 V) → Replace the charger.
    • Expected output: 54.6 V for 48V scooters, 58.8 V for 52V, 67.2 V for the 60V Phantom 2.0, 42 V for 36V. Far below the label also points to the charger. Model by model: "Apollo Scooters Charger Specifications".

Step 2: Inspect Charging Port (Under Bottom Cover)

  1. Power off scooter and place it on a stable surface.

  2. Remove bottom cover screws carefully.

  3. Inspect the charge-port area:

    • Look for bent pins, corrosion, burn marks, melted plastic, or debris.
    • Ensure the connector is fully seated in the wiring harness.
    • Clean gently with compressed air or a soft brush if needed.
⚠️ Do not insert metal tools into the port.

Step 3: Test Port Continuity and Wiring

  1. Set multimeter to continuity (or low Ohms Ω).

  2. With scooter off and charger unplugged, probe from the charging port terminals to the battery/controller connector.

  3. Good wiring → near-zero resistance or continuity beep.

    • If continuity fails, inspect for broken wires or loose crimps.

💡Tip: Take a photo before unplugging any connectors to keep orientation and wiring order correct when reassembling.

Step 4: Confirm Live Charging Behavior

  1. Reconnect charger to scooter (power off).
  2. Measure voltage at port terminals: it should match charger output.
  3. If port shows charger voltage but battery voltage doesn’t rise, the BMS or battery pack may be faulty.
  4. If charger LED stays green and no voltage appears at the port, the charger or its connector is defective.

Step 5: Reset the Battery BMS

  1. If it stopped charging right after a ride, let the scooter rest 10 to 20 minutes at room temperature first: the BMS blocks charging while the battery is hot. Still refusing after 30 minutes cool means it is not the heat lock.

  2. Power the scooter off and unplug the charger.

  3. Under the bottom cover, disconnect the battery connector from the controller for 2 to 3 minutes, then reconnect it firmly.

  4. Plug the charger into the wall first, then into the scooter, and check whether the light turns red.

Step 6: Interpret Results

Finding Likely Cause Action
0 V at charger plug Faulty charger Replace charger
Charger output OK but no voltage at port Broken cable / damaged port Repair or replace charge port harness
Port shows voltage but battery doesn’t charge BMS protection or bad battery Do the BMS reset (Step 5); still not charging, contact support
Melted or burnt connectors Physical damage Replace charge-port assembly immediately
